Eli Reed ~Charise J (347 ARHI) (Magnum)

Eli Reed

Eli Reed was born in 1946, in New Jersey. In 1969, he studied pictorial illustration at Newark school of Fine and Industrial Arts. By 1982, he went to study at Harvard University for other majors. He later became a full member of Magnum because of his photos that he took in Central America. When it came photography he focused on African-Americans and came out with a book about it called Black in America

This photo was chosen because it was portrait of Tupac Shakur. Tupac was a motivational speaker in music language which most people didn't get to understand. I never knew that Tupac took portrait photos, but I also had chosen this because this is a representation of African-American people in America. There aren't many African-American photographers in this world that are known. His work on African-Americans was based on what they did during their life time. He wanted to capture true Americans (mostly African-Americans) in their natural element in America during the time of his photography session.
