( https://loeildelaphotographie.com/en/reflection-on-irving-penns-photographs-after-dinner-games-new-york-1947/ ) Irving Penn Irvin Penn was known for his still life, portraits, and fashion photography photos. He studied at Philadelphia Museum School for Industrial Art for two years in the 1930s. Around the 1950s, he opened his own art studio, which had made him grow more popular over time. His work on Still Life was more of it being abstract because of the volumes and lines of the objects. Most of his art work is being shown in museums in the United States and Europe. This photo was chosen because it reminds me of how Still Life could just be anything. But you could make a bigger image out of what was used.   (  https://arnoldnewman.com/portraits.html  ) Arnold Newman   Arnold Newman is known as the "Father of Environmental Portraiture" because of his change in the way portraits were taken. He studied at the University of Miami off of a scholarship. Newman started his career after college in 1938. His works are in the greatest museums. He was also rewarded numerous awards for his work.   This portrait was chosen because of the images in the background. Richard Lindner, the man in the portrait, is inside of the shadow or dark figure in the background image. That could mean that is him or how he acts. For the woman in the image behind him, it could be his lover or ex based on how her lips are. This is being said because most of the time, when it comes to taking a portrait, the surroundings connects to the person that is being seen in the portrait. This portrait could mean a lot of things based on if the viewer knows Richard Lindner or not.  ~Charise J

He did his photos without color to show the effect of light and shadow has in a image. He studied his photography work at  San Francisco Art Institute. He later became an assistance for Dorothea Lange and Robert Frank. This had led him to becoming an independent photographer.   This picture was chosen because of the shadow work. Since we are working on composition, light and shadow, and reflection, this piece shows two of what we are working on in my perspective. The shadow from the mans face can be seen as a reflection because it is in front of him. Moving on to the body that is being shown, The light that is hitting the body gives it a shadow that gives the figure some kind of depth to not make it look like a 2D figure. When I had first seen this photo, I didn't notice the naked body because the main shadow that was being shown was from the man's head wh
