He later studied painting and photography in France. Tseng Kwong Chi interest in photography started when he was travelling. He liked how Asians tourist were when they were travelling and so, he wanted to recreate that in his own way. His project on this interest was the East Meets West series, which was portrait photography in different travels spots while wearing Mao suit with dark glasses. His purpose of this series was to show identity, fiction, and the truth of what people may actually think of you. People around him when he was taking the photos would think that he is someone important from Asia. This photo was chosen because of the way that he is in motion and the background is still. Most of the time, according to the article, he took his pictures by himself with no help. T...

( http://www.artnet.com/artists/duane-michals/ ) Duane Michals Duane Michals was born on February 18, 1932 in Pennsylvania. He went to the University of Denver in 1953 and got his Bachelors of Art degree. By 1956, he became interested in studying photography but became a photographer that expresses emotions after he quit studying. Michals likes to do a series with his work, multiple exposers, and texts. His main component in his work is text because he would want people to understand what he may be coming from. He express his meaning in poetry, tragic, and/or humorous. This photo was chosen because I am aiming for something like this for my final project. My idea is to incorporate my drawings with an image of a mirror to give some type of emotion. The image shows a person inside the mirror and outside of the mirror which is something I want to try to aim for. ~Charise J

( Eli Reed • Photographer Profile • Magnum Photos ) Eli Reed Eli Reed was born in 1946, in New Jersey. In 1969, he studied pictorial illustration at Newark school of Fine and Industrial Arts. By 1982, he went to study at Harvard University for other majors. He later became a full member of Magnum because of his photos that he took in Central America. When it came photography he focused on African-Americans and came out with a book about it called Black in America . This photo was chosen because it was portrait of Tupac Shakur. Tupac was a motivational speaker in music language which most people didn't get to understand. I never knew that Tupac took portrait photos, but I also had chosen this because this is a representation of African-American people in America. There aren't many African-American photographers in this world that are known. His work on African-Americans was based on what they did during their life time. He wanted to capture true Americans ...

( Chuck Kelton - Sasha Wolf Projects ) Chuck Kelton Chuck Kelton began photography at the age of 14. He had spent his time working with other photographers. By the time he created Kelton Labs, which was a seven person operation, he started grabbing big-named clients attention. He work consists of chemograms and photograms being made in the darkroom. Kelton worked with light and chemistry on darkroom paper to make it into a n abstract landscape. This photo was chosen because it is very artistic for a photographer. I love it when people put art with photography because not many people combine art with photography. This photo is creative and could give me an idea on how I can combine art with photography. The way he mixed chemicals on the darkroom paper is cool because it could make colors without using color dye which I also find creative. ~Charise J

( Bieke Depoorter • Photographer Profiles • Magnum Photos ) Bieke Depoorter Bieke Depoorter was born in 1986, in Belgium. By 2009, she had gotten her master's degree of photography in Ghent. In 2016, she became a full member of Magnum Photos. Her photography was based on finding people to help her tell a story. She viewed her participants as actors and wanted them to be in an environment that could tell a story. This photo was chosen because I could see the story that she was trying to tell. During a time in December, people would decorate their homes with a bunch of Christmas lights to impress people who would come by their homes. After a while, a company had made a Christmas lights drive through to show people what could be made out of the Christmas lights. This photo shows that type of theme that she was aiming for. The expressions of the people in the car shows how certain people reacts to this type of thing. Not everyone would be excited to see them ...

( Robert Frank | San Francisco (1956) | Artsy ) Robert Frank Robert Frank was born in 1924, in Switzerland. He studied photography in 1941. He worked on commercial photography and studio design. Frank later worked on his photography book called The Americans which changed photography in a way. He caught the actual perspective of what America is like instead of everyone assuming the US was living the “American dream”. He wanted people to understand how he felt and how the people may have felt when he took those photos that was in the book. This photo was chosen because he actually liked talking about this photo out of all his photos because of their reaction. When he took this photo he said that he tried to make it seem like he was taking a photo of the horizon but actually of them. The reaction from the man was frightening to him because he looked back at him mad and was questioning him (by the look on his facial expression). Frank just moved his camera a...
